This is my blog with my personal views and comments about issues that interest me.
I have worked in the NHS since 1974. I am privileged to serve as a consultant community paediatrician working with the community of Lewisham in south east London. It is a role that is never far from the realities for people living in the most challenging of circumstances – families and children living with disability, vulnerable families, health and socio-economic inequality.
I am also clinical manager – director of services for children and young people at Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust.
I have seen first hand the impact of political dogmatism on the NHS as it has been put through a damaging upheaval due to a financial assault and the Health and Social Care Act implemented April 2013, an Act with no electoral mandate which is threatening to destroy the founding priniciples of the NHS. The NHS is facing its greatest threat since it was founded in 1948. (Tory manifesto and promises in the 2010 general election promised no structural reorganisation of the NHS – they lied.)
